Long Night of Research 2024

29.05.2024

The Long Night of Research was a thrilling event.

The Long Night of Research was a huge success! Many visitors stopped by to learn more about our research. It was a fantastic opportunity to engage with the Viennese public. We demonstrated:

  • Talbot interferometry with light which is a paradigmatic analogy to our matter-wave research at the University of Vienna.
  • Electrodynamical trapping of biological nanoparticles: plant spores were trapped in a Paul trap and made visibile by laser light.
  • A 3D photo-realistic simulation of our matter-wave experiments. This animation, originally developed in a PhD thesis by Matthias Tomandl in our lab, has been used around the world to teach far-field and near-field interferometry with complex molecules.
